Local Attractions

Thape Gate

Thape Gate is a historic landmark located just a three-minute walk from Minicost Guesthouse. It’s one of the original gates that provided access through the walls of Chiang Mai’s old city. Today, the gate has been fully reconstructed and is known as Tapae Gate. While there’s been some controversy about the authenticity of the design, the restoration work in the 1980s was based on old photographs and drawings.

In front of the gate, there’s a large brick-paved plaza that’s often used for markets or shows during festivals. If you need a caffeine fix, there are two well-known coffee shops in the gate area. Whether you’re a history buff or just looking for a unique photo opportunity, Thape Gate is a must-see attraction that’s just steps away from Minicost Guesthouse.
